Who’s on first?
Who’s on first? It’s a question with great historical significance. Many would think beloved comedians Lou Abbott and Bud Costello gave it household status — and they would be right. Through a hilarious rollercoaster-word-ride Abbott and Costello have brought audiences to the floor (as in “laughing on the.”) And, even to this day we know where it all ended up at… “first base!”
But Jesus is the one that actually gave it significance.
“They came to Capernaum. When [Jesus] was in the house, he asked them, “What were you arguing about on the road?” But they kept quiet because on the way they had argued about who was the greatest. Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all.” (Mark 9:33-35)
We're told as Believers that we ought to consider others better than ourselves. Jesus also tells us “in order to be great in the Kingdom that we need to become the very last” while we're here on earth. What does that mean?
The Spirit moved deeply upon us last Sunday as Pastor Terry taught from this well-known, but perhaps little understood passage. Little-understood, at least, in how it works out practically. Listen in and see what the Spirit is saying to the church.
